To install Paper, first determine the Java version that the target Minecraft version requires. Running the server in a separate directory makes it easier to manage files and backups.
Step by step
-
Get the server jar file for the target version from the official Paper download page. Check which Java the terminal is actually running with
java -version. -
Put the jar file in the empty directory with the name
paper.jar. Example startup commandjava -Xms1G -Xmx3G -jar paper.jar --nogui. Edit memory values according to machine capacity. -
Read the conditions in the
eula.txtfile created on first run. If you agree, makeeula=trueand restart the server. Wait until the console finishes booting. -
Enter with
localhostfrom the same machine. Then set the whitelist and open the game port for external players only if necessary.
Keep in mind
Make sure clean install is turned on before moving your production world or plugins.
