What is the difference between Minecraft Java and Bedrock?

Java and Bedrock use different client and server protocols. Before sharing a server address, determine which edition is supported.

Step by step

  1. Check the edition from the launcher or game opening screen. Windows may have both editions, the device name alone is not enough.

  2. Use Java connection address on Java server, Bedrock address and port on Bedrock server. Even if the same domain name is given, these connections may go to different ports.

  3. If you want to bring two editions together on the same server, use a compatible bridge such as Geyser in front of the Java server. Look at the support table of installed versions.

  4. Try logging in separately with a real Java and Bedrock account. If they both appear in the same world, you've confirmed the cross-connection.

Keep in mind

Geyser does not automatically translate Java mods or any client-specific game features to Bedrock.
