Verify the restore in a separate directory first. This way, if the wrong date or missing file is noticed, you won't crush the current world.
Step by step
-
Verify the date and server version of the backup you want to restore. Make a separate backup of your current server as well.
-
Extracts the backup to an empty test directory. Check that the external database for the world, player and add-on folders come from the same backup point.
-
Open the test server on a different or local port only. Try out player inventory, dimension migrations, and attachment data.
-
When going live, stop the server and replace the verified files together. Keep the old live directory separate for fallback.
Keep in mind
If you just restore the world files, the add-on economy or player permissions may remain on a different date.
