The version field in the status query gives an initial information. On proxy networks, this label may not indicate all supported client versions.
Step by step

Query server status with correct edition, domain name and port. Note the version label returned.

Check the supported version range on your server's site or Discord. Also find out the mod pack version on the modded server.

If you are an administrator, verify the actual versions running in the server and proxy console separately. Tell the player clearly which client to use.

Real login with the announced version. If you get different results, investigate the distinction between status tag and protocol compatibility.
