How to fix “Connection timed out” in Minecraft

A timeout indicates that the client did not receive the expected response within the time limit. A closed server, wrong port, or network rules that silently drop packets can lead to the same result.

Step by step

  1. Verify the advertised address and port. If another player can log in with the same address, compare with Wi-Fi on your own device and mobile hotspot if possible.

  2. If you are managing the Java server, verify that the console is opened. Then check that the correct TCP port is listening on the server machine and try connecting to the same port from the external network.

  3. If the local test passes and the external test fails, check the modem routing, cloud security rules, and operating system firewall separately. Also verify the mode of transport you are using for Bedrock.

  4. Ask a player on a different network to connect directly after the change. Successful testing on one's own network alone does not prove that the port is open to the Internet.

Keep in mind

A response to the ping command does not indicate that the Minecraft port is open. Game connection via ICMP are separate tests.
